On April 21, His Eminence offered an inspirational reflection on fraternity, presided at the 70th anniversary Mass of St. Catherine of Siena Parish, and joined missionaries and parishioners for a festive dinner.

The Missionaries of St. Charles — Scalabrinians — gathered in Toronto from April 20 to 24 for their annual Interprovincial Assembly, which brought together more than 100 priests and brothers from the Provinces of St. John the Baptist and St. Charles Borromeo. Serving migrant and multicultural communities in twelve countries across North, Central, and South America, as well as the Caribbean, the Assembly offered the religious the opportunity to share pastoral experiences, strengthen their fraternity, and reflect on their missionary identity. This year’s theme, “Fraternity in Multicultural Communities,” guided the discussions and moments of prayer throughout the gathering.

On April 21, the Assembly welcomed His Eminence Frank Cardinal Leo, Archbishop of Toronto, who offered an inspiring reflection on the theme of fraternity. Drawing on Scripture and the pastoral challenges of contemporary migration, Cardinal Leo encouraged the Scalabrinian missionaries to deepen their commitment to communion, charity, and joyful service. His message and closeness to the missionaries resonated deeply with the participants, reaffirming the Congregation’s charism of welcoming, protecting, and accompanying migrants and refugees.

Later that same day, Cardinal Leo presided over a solemn Mass at St. Catherine of Siena Parish, which this year marks its 70th anniversary as a vibrant Catholic community in the Archdiocese of Toronto. The liturgy brought together parishioners, missionaries, and guests to give thanks for seven decades of faith, service, and cultural diversity. The celebration also highlighted the long-standing connection between the parish and the Scalabrinian Fathers, who have served the community with dedication and pastoral creativity since its founding.

The day concluded with a festive dinner at the Le Treport Wedding and Convention Center, where missionaries, priests, brothers, and parishioners gathered in a spirit of joy and fraternity. The evening provided an opportunity to honor the ongoing missionary work of the Scalabrinians and to celebrate the unity that characterizes their presence in Toronto and throughout the Americas.
