Children’s Liturgy of the Word
MISSION STATEMENT
To explore the Sunday Gospel with our parish children using language and activities geared to their level of understanding.
ABOUT US
- The Children’s Liturgy takes place during the 11:00 a.m. Sunday Mass.
- The priest calls the children up to the altar at the beginning of Mass where they are collected by an adult catechist and taken downstairs to hear the Liturgy of the Word. Parents should remain in the church during this time to attend Mass. The children are returned to their pews, later in the mass, during the offertory procession.
- Sessions run September to May excluding special holidays.
- The Children’s Liturgy is geared towards children who are in Grades JK to Grade 1.
- No registration is necessary.
WHAT IT TAKES TO PARTICIPATE
- You are expected to know the Sunday readings in advance and plan a 20 minute session suitable for young children based on the readings.
- The parish provides materials to help focus on the weekly gospel message.
- Adults who wish to help out in this ministry need to submit a volunteer screening form to the Archdiocese of Toronto. These are provided through the parish office.
